Why Do We Need Licensure of NDs in Wyoming?
Wyoming does not currently offer licensure for Naturopathic Doctors (NDs). The WYANP is working diligently toward establishing a licensing law in which naturopathic physicians become licensed primary care providers in Wyoming. Licensure of NDs would establish educational and practice standards and a board of registration to regulate the profession.
Some of or goals in becoming licensed include being able to take insurance and open the scope of our practice (i.e., order more lab work, do more physical exams).
Licensure of naturopathic medicine in Wyoming will improve overall patient care and give needed access to this very effective means of health care that our communities are demanding.
Why are Licensed NDs Important?
Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) are currently licensed in 25 states and or territories and are seen as vital contributors of science-based expertise in the field of natural medicine.
Many medical organizations such as the Mayo Clinic, the National Institutes of Health, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center collaborate with NDs in research and medical care.
Naturopathic Doctors are specially trained in preventing chronic conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, chronic pain, depression). In 2018, most of the health care costs in this country - upwards of 90 percent - were for people with one or more chronic, potentially preventable diseases.
What we are doing about it
We aim to have a bill for the 2027 legislative session!
We need your help in contacting your Wyoming representatives and passing the word on to others who support naturopathic medicine, so we can make our way to licensure.
